Joe Biden’s failures on the public stage have been documented repeatedly over the course of his term in office. He has mumbled and stumbled before the American people – and the world – so often that people on both sides of the aisle have questioned his mental and physical health.
Former President Donald Trump has taken criticism of Biden’s ailments a step further and demanded the incumbent agree to a drug test before their upcoming debates. Biden and his handlers have refused, though, and that prompted action from a Tennessee Republican.
Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee wants to the world to know if Biden is under the influence of specific types of drugs before he steps on the debate stage: Ogles proposed a bill where the White House would have to notify Congress when the president takes a drug that could alter his alertness, judgment or mood.
From Fox News:
“Joe Biden’s embarrassing outbursts of anger and incomprehensible speeches mirror the incalculable damage his policies have had on our nation,” Ogles said.“Frequently slurred speech, abnormally long pauses and the inability to string together five words in a coherent sentence have put Biden’s mental and physical decline on full display,” he said. “It is unfair to the American people for the White House to be occupied by someone who is literally incapable of speaking.”
Dubbed the “No Juicing Act,” Ogles said the legislation was prompted because the White House “has refused” to test President Biden’s cognitive abilities “because they know he will fail miserably.”
Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee, is set to face off with Biden in their first debate later this month. Ogles said he wants to hold Biden accountable to the people and that Congress has a duty to ensure that accountability.
A White House spokesperson said the proposed legislation shows how scared Republicans are of Biden after his State of the Union performance. The White House believes Republicans “mistake confidence for a drug.”
Republican officials have countered by repeatedly posting videos of Biden’s various public gaffes, including alleged episodes of confusion and cognitive dysfunction.
Biden is 81 years old and the oldest person to hold the presidency. He has faced skepticism from voters and Republican lawmakers with politicians on both sides of the aisle expressing concern that Biden is showing his age in private meetings.
