After Jeff Bezos Refuses to Let Washington Post Endorse Harris, He Demands They Add Conservative Writers

The Washington Post has found itself in hot water after owner Jeff Bezos decided to block an endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for president. Since then, more than 200,000 people have canceled their digital subscriptions to the outlet.

This has been devastating for The Post. Indeed, this number makes up for 8% of the paper’s paid circulation of roughly 2.5 million subscribers. As of this writing, the number of cancellations is continuing to grow.

“It’s a colossal number,” Marcus Brauchli, a former executive editor at The Post, told NPR. “The problem is, people don’t know why the decision was made. We basically know the decision was made but we don’t know what led to it.”

Bezos, however, is refusing to back down. Instead, he’s eager to make some changes at The Post that will ideally make it a more balanced publication.

From The New York Post:
Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos has reportedly given the newspaper a mandate to add more conservative voices to its opinion section — even as he remains silent over the broadsheet’s decision not to endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

Bezos — the world’s second richest person with a fortune that Bloomberg Billionaires Index valued at $211 billion as of Monday — is keen on gaining a more ideologically diverse readership by expanding his newspaper’s reach among right-leaning audiences, according to a report in The New York Times.

Bezos’ Big Plans For The Post

Bezos still has yet to speak publicly about this situation. Behind the scenes, however, it seems that he has some big plans for The Washington Post.

This comes after Bezos brought in ex-Wall Street Journal boss Will Lewis as his chief executive officer. Lewis has since claimed that it was his decision, rather than Bezos’, to block the Harris endorsement. Lewis stood by this choice, arguing that it is “consistent with the values the Post has always stood for.” He added that it reflected the paper’s faith in “our readers’ ability to make up their own minds.”

How refreshing!

Lewis went on to say that not endorsing Harris is “consistent with the values the Post has always stood for and what we hope for in a leader: character and courage in service to the American ethic, veneration for the rule of law, and respect for human freedom in all its aspects.”

The Washington Post has long been known as one of the most liberal publications out there. This is saying quite a lot, given how many media publications have been taken over by leftists.

Does This Indicate That Trump Will Win?

Some have speculated that this move from The Post could indicate that Trump could be closer to victory than the left would have the public believe.

“This is obviously an effort by Jeff Bezos to curry favor with Donald Trump in the anticipation of his possible victory,” said Robert Kagan, a former member of The Post’s opinions section who resigned in protest.

The media has become so biased towards the left that they’ve ruined their own credibility. There’s no reason a publication like The Washington Post should have to endorse a presidential candidate. The backlash that The Post is receiving serves as a reminder of just how hateful and deranged the liberal mob really is.

Liberals don’t want a publication that is fair and balanced. Instead, they only want one that will reinforce their own beliefs. In the end, Bezos could be making a smart decision longterm in trying to move his publication more towards the center.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this turns out for him.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Washington Post loses 200K subscribers after owner Jeff Bezos blocks Harris endorsement.
  • Bezos wants more conservative voices in The Post’s opinion section.
  • Does this indicate Trump is close to victory?
