Virginia is one of only a few states that hold elections on “off” years. This year, voters will go to the polls to elect members of the Virginia House of Delegates, among other offices. One Democrat running for office is Susanna Gibson. Just weeks before the election, she was outed for previously posting content to an adult website.
Pundits debated whether or not this would hurt her election chances. She accused Republicans of breaking the law by discussing the scandal. Some might have assumed that, in this day and age, posting adult videos would not hurt a candidate’s chances. A poll gauged Virginia voters’ attitude toward Gibson after the news broke. She might not like what she hears.

A majority of voters appear to have soured on Virginia Democrat Susanna Gibson, in light of her recent scandal. Fifty-six percent of those asked think she should drop out of the race. Only 30% think she should continue running.
Even among Democrats, the news is not good. Most, 44%, said Gibson should drop out, with 39% saying she should stay in the race. Women are largely upset over the scandal, with 60% saying she should quit. In fact, the core voting bloc for Democrats, including female, black, and young voters, want her gone.
Reports revealed Gibson had removed the videos from the site just days before announcing her campaign. Her campaign accused her Republican rivals of breaking the law by calling out the content, although it is unclear if any Republican was behind the revelation.
Recently, a local outlet was criticized for publishing an op-ed by Gibson, that avoided hard questions. The paper also posted old stories about Gibson on its front page, which portrayed her in a positive light. Gibson has been endorsed by “Moms Demand Action.”
