Have you been able to keep track of the number of cases Trump is fighting against during the 2024 election year? Many believe this legal coordination against Donald is planned “lawfare.”
The former President has already fought a case in New York on property valuations for bank loans, and was fined an unprecedented sum to pay immediately in order to appeal. Thankfully, the appeals court knocked down the total to a high, but doable, number.
Recently the other New York case has made eye-rolling headlines as Michael Cohen, Alvin Bragg and Stormy Daniels seem determined to smear Trump. The third case in Georgia slammed into a brick wall as Fani Willis got grilled for impropriety.
The fourth, and final, case is in a federal court, let by the Trump-appointed Judge Cannon, questioning President Trump’s handling of classified documents. Which continues even as President Biden got a pass when Robert Hur called Joe an “elderly man with a poor memory,” and therefore unfit to stand trial before a jury.
This critical case on classified documents just got a major announcement from the judge, and it has huge implications for the 2024 Election.
From The Hill:
Judge Aileen Cannon suspended a key deadline in former President Trump’s documents case after his attorneys suggested special counsel Jack Smith’s team had “failed to preserve critical evidence” in the case, in response to prosecutors disclosing that some classified records may not be in the original order in which they were found.Cannon did not set a new deadline on the matter, and settling how classified documents will be handled at trial could itself take months to resolve.
Translation: this case is dead in the water. Trump has hoped legally to hold these cases off until after the election, at which time they would become irrelevant or he would likely have the power to put an end to them.
So this major delay represents a major win for the Trump team. Some may say that Trump did not handle the classified documents situation as well as he could, but the contrast between cases could not be more stark. They actually raided Mar-A-Lago while Trump was out. They found a handful of files in a secured room that Trump may have been able to declassify as President.
On the other hand, Biden’s documents were discovered in many places, including in an old box in his unsecured garage. These documents included ones from Joe’s Senate years that he apparently took illegally out of a skiff, and had no ability to declassify.
Further investigation revealed that these documents were found long before they were “voluntarily” handed over to authorities.
So chalk up another win for Trump. This may have been the case Trump was in the most legal jeopardy, and now it is indefinitely suspended.
Key Takeaways:
- Federal Judge Aileen Cannon indefinitely suspended Trump’s document case.
- The Special Counsel team has been accused of mishandling the evidence in the case.
- This likely pushes the case past the 2024 election.
