6-3 Supreme Court Ruling Shakes the Nation – Key Constitutional Right Returned

The Supreme Court continues to make landmark decisions in its current session. This week, it is releasing rulings on numerous cases brought before it in recent weeks. As it stands, the court has a 6-3 conservative lean, thanks to Trump’s three appointments in his first term.

A longstanding controversy was finally brought before the court. It concerns a ban put into effect during Trump’s presidency.

Millions of Americans were shocked that a pro-Bill of Rights president would pull this move. But political pressure won the day at the time. Now, the court has ruled on this issue, and progressive Democrats are not happy.

From Fox News:
The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that a bump stock does not transform a firearm into an automatic weapon, striking down a federal rule that banned bump stocks.

“Semiautomatic firearms, which require shooters to reengage the trigger for every shot, are not machineguns. This case asks whether a bump stock — an accessory for a semi-automatic rifle that allows the shooter to rapidly reengage the trigger (and therefore achieve a high rate of fire) — converts the rifle into a ‘machinegun.’ We hold that it does not,” he wrote.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that a bump stock does not turn a firearm into an automatic weapon. The court overturned a President Trump-era rule that prohibited this attachment. This is welcomed news to many law-abiding gun owners.

In its opinion, the court stated that semiautomatic firearms–which require shooters to pull the trigger for every shot–are not “machineguns.” The case centered on whether a bump stock, an accessory for a semi-automatic rifle that enables rapid trigger re-engagement, effectively turns the rifle into a ‘machinegun.’ The court held that it does not.

Trump passed a ban on these bump stocks after a horrible shooting in Las Vegas. The alleged shooter used this device. Gun control advocates claimed that bump stocks turn regular rifles into “machine guns.” Anyone who actually uses firearms would have told you otherwise.

Bump stocks often help disabled Americans, including veterans, to use firearms. It aided Americans in defending themselves from danger. Now, thanks to this court ruling, Democrats and the federal government can’t stop gun owners from using them.
