Red State Passes Huge America First Law – And It Drops the Hammer on Our Top Enemy

America’s enemies have become bolder in their indirect attacks on the United States and its people. They work in a variety of ways to take advantage of the nation’s lax laws and personal freedoms.

Foreign adversaries have weaseled their way into our backyards while setting up shop to conduct operations meant to harm the U.S. Congress and presidents for decades have ignored this problem and bantered among themselves about possible solution without taking serious action.

That is changing at the state level where politicians are stepping up and taking on this problem. Red states are leading the charge, and one state sent a direct message to a top enemy of the United States.

From the Daily Caller:
The Kansas House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday preventing foreign adversaries from buying up land near sensitive military sites following a Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) investigation.

In an 84-39 vote, the Kansas House passed SB172, which prevents firms and entities linked to China and other countries identified as foreign adversaries from owning or purchasing agricultural land within 150 miles of a military installation.

“The Chinese Communist Party is the greatest national security threat facing Kansas. President Xi will stop at nothing to infiltrate our supply chains and gain access to our military bases,” Republican Kansas Rep. Jake LaTurner told the DCNF on Wednesday.

The bill was prompted following a DCNF investigation. The outlet uncovered how the parent company of a firm that planned to buy land in Kansas has extensive ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The outlets investigation followed research delivered by The Heritage Foundation Oversight Project and Heritage Action.

The bill, if signed into law, would directly affect a project of Cnano USA, a subsidiary of Chinese-based firm Cnano Jiangsu Technology Co., Ltd. (Cnano Jiangsu). The company has plans to build a 333,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Johnson County, Kansas. That is in the back yard of Fort Leavenworth 35 miles away and 70 miles from Whiteman Air Force Base, the only operational base for the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber.

According to the DCNF, Cnano Jiangsu employs several dozen members of the CCP and promotes party ideology. The U.S. Director of National Intelligence has stated that the company has described projects where it works to “clandestinely acquire US technology and sensitive economic information.”

“We can’t stand by and let the Chinese Communist Party steal from, bully, and spy on Kansans right in our own backyard,” LaTurner said in a statement. He applauded the Kansas House for passing the “commonsense legislation” to prevent a U.S. adversary from expanding its foothold in the state.

It would be great if U.S. legislators would take the same action at the federal level and stop any further encroachment of CCP-backed companies from gaining ground across the country.

Key Takeaways:

  • Kansas legislators passed a strong bill designed to stop China from more spying.
  • The bill, if signed into law, prevents foreign adversaries from buying certain land.
  • The proposed law would prevent land purchases within 150 miles of military sites.
