It’s been a rough year for Joe Biden. Heading into 2024, he had the full support of his party as he ran for reelection.

That all changed when Biden botched his first debate against Donald Trump back in June. On the debate stage, Biden’s apparent cognitive failings were on full display for the world like never before.

Afterwards, the Democrat establishment immediately began pressuring Biden to drop out of the race so that they could run another candidate in his place. Leading the charge in this endeavor were former President Barack Obama and ex-Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Biden held out as long as he could, but he eventually gave in and dropped out in July. Within hours, the Democrat establishment had anointed Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement.

Of course, none of this worked out for Democrats in the end. Much to their dismay, Harris was trounced by Trump in both the Electoral College and the popular vote.

On Wednesday, Biden celebrated his 82nd birthday. Despite everything that has happened between the two of them in recent months, Obama still spoke out to wish Biden a happy birthday.

It didn’t take long for this to blow up in the former president’s face. Indeed, Fox News host Jesse Watters was quick to point out just how ridiculous it is for Obama to describe Biden as his “friend” mere months after he apparently stabbed his own former vice president in the back.

Biden Is Holding A Grudge

Obama hasn’t spoken publicly on where he and Biden stand with one another in the wake of the president allegedly being forced out of the race. Pelosi, however, made it clear last month that Biden is holding a grudge against her and the other Democrat power players who ousted him. This would seemingly include Obama.

The former speaker of the House told the Guardian’s Jonathan Freedland on the Politics Weekly America podcast that although she continues to regard the US president as a great friend and longtime political ally, she felt a cold political calculation was necessary after the evidence of Biden’s failing mental acuity.

“Not since then, no,” she said when asked if she had spoken to Biden since. “But I’m prayerful about it.”

Making matters even worse is the fact that Pelosi, who is widely regarded as the voice of the Democrat establishment, has been blaming Biden for Harris’ loss in the weeks since Election Day. She’s claimed that “had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race.”

“The anticipation was that, if the president were to step aside, that there would be an open primary,” Pelosi recently stated.

Clearly, there is no love lost between Biden and the Democrat establishment these days. Obama can publicly wish Biden a “happy birthday” all that he wants to, but it’s likely that their relationship behind the scenes is far from a positive one.
