NYC Mayor Mamdani Calls Mob Attack That Hospitalized NYPD Officers a ‘Snowball Fight,’ Opposes Criminal Charges

There’s a simple contract in this country: brave men and women stand between our families and the chaos, holding a thin blue line. In return for their courage, they deserve our respect and the unwavering support of the leaders they serve. They know the risks that come from criminals. What they shouldn’t have to risk is being sold out by their own bosses.

But in America’s bluest cities, a cancer has taken root. The very notion of law and order is being undermined by radical progressives who somehow get elected to run these places. A poisonous disrespect, flowing down from the top, signals to every thug and anarchist that the cops are the enemy and their authority is a joke. So, what happens when a mayor’s instinct is to defend the criminals instead of the cops they put in the hospital?

We got our answer this week, straight from New York City’s Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani. After a mob swarmed and violently attacked his police officers, he had this to say.

From ‘The Daily Wire’:

“I think there were two officers who were facing lacerations on their face,” Mamdani said. He was then asked if he would call for the prosecution of the people who pelted the officers with snowballs. Mamdani replied, “Look, I’ve seen the videos of this snowball fight. I think that it was a snowball fight.”

He acknowledges the injuries—lacerations to the face—and in the very next breath dismisses a criminal attack as a “snowball fight.” This isn’t a gaffe. This is a deliberate, disgusting betrayal of the oath he took and the officers he commands. For a mayor to casually wave away an assault that hospitalized his own people isn’t just indifference—it’s a slap in the face to every American who respects the rule of law.

While Mamdani was concocting his fairy tale, his Police Commissioner, Jessica Tisch, had the decency to call the attack what it was: “disgraceful” and “criminal.” But the mayor was just getting started with his spin.

When ‘Kids’ Have Beards

And the excuses didn’t stop there. According to the mayor, the perpetrators who hospitalized his officers were just “kids” having a bit of fun. It was a pathetic and dishonest attempt to rewrite reality right before our eyes.

But here’s the thing about reality: it’s stubborn. While the mayor was busy protecting the offenders, the NYPD was doing its job. The department released photos of the men they wanted for questioning. And guess what? These weren’t fifth graders. Police described the suspects as men aged 18 to 20, and the photos show one of them with a beard. The department is pursuing charges for felony assault on a police officer. It seems in Mayor Mamdani’s world, grown men committing felonies are just “kids” who need a timeout.

The Consequences of Radical Rhetoric

This brazen attack wasn’t a random event. It’s the predictable outcome of years of relentless anti-police propaganda from the radical left. Even a Democrat like former Governor Andrew Cuomo could see it, pointing out the obvious: “Words have consequences. We are seeing that in the growing disrespect for law enforcement… Real leaders understand that. This mayor does not.”

That line of defense our police provide can repel an army of thugs. But it is not designed to withstand betrayal from within. When it is systematically dismantled by the very politicians who are supposed to be its staunchest defenders, it will eventually crumble. And we, the citizens who rely on that line for our safety, will be left to face the chaos that spills through the breach.

Key Takeaways

  • NYC’s mayor trivialized a violent mob attack on NYPD officers as a “snowball fight.”
  • The mayor falsely claimed the attackers were “kids,” but police photos show adult men.
  • This incident is a direct result of the Left’s anti-police rhetoric and soft-on-crime policies.
  • The deliberate downplaying of felony assault is a warning sign of decaying order in liberal cities.
