Former President Donald Trump’s campaign responded to the guilty verdict in the Hunter Biden criminal case on Tuesday by saying that the trial was “a distraction” from the Biden family’s “real crimes.”“This trial has been nothing more than a distraction from the real crimes of the Biden Crime Family, which has raked in tens of millions of dollars from China, Russia and Ukraine,” said Karoline Leavitt, Trump campaign National Press Secretary. “Crooked Joe Biden’s reign over the Biden Family Criminal Empire is all coming to an end on November 5th, and never again will a Biden sell government access for personal profit.”
Hunter Biden, 54, was convicted on three felony counts. These included lying to a federally licensed firearms dealer, making a false claim on a federal firearms background check form, and being in possession of an illegally obtained firearm. He is facing up to 25 years in prison for the convictions and up to $750,000 in fines.
And this may not be the end of criminal prosecution for the president’s son. Federal prosecutors confirmed the validity of Hunter Biden’s laptop, which was left at a computer repair shop and revealed in October 2020.
Federal investigators may pursue Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) violations against Hunter Biden, according to investigative reporter Catherine Herridge. She referred to the laptop as the “backbone” of the special counsel case related to the gun charges.
“Pending CA tax case poses significant, potential legal jeopardy for Hunter + immediate family, calls him a ‘lobbyist,’” Herridge posted on X. “References to Ukraine, China strongly suggest investigators exploring potential FARA violations.”
U.S. House Republicans are continuing their investigation of the president and his family business practices. The Hunter Biden investigation, if expanded to FARA violations, could expose the family even more and aid GOP efforts to impeach the president.
