Woman Who Claimed She Was Raped by Duke Lacrosse Players In 2006 Admits She Lied

Back in 2006, three lacrosse players at Duke University were accused of rape by Crystal Mangum. She had met the players when she was working as a stripper in March of that year.

The case made national headlines, playing on the racial tensions that still plague America today. The three players were all eventually acquitted, with a jury finding them innocent of the claims Mangum made against them.

Mangum has since been sent to prison herself after murdering her boyfriend. Now, she’s speaking out to reveal the truth about her rape claims finally.

From Fox News:
“I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn’t and that was wrong, and I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me,” Mangum said. “[I] made up a story that wasn’t true because I wanted validation from people and not from God.”

Mangum, who is serving a prison sentence for murdering her boyfriend, falsely accused three Duke players of raping her while she was performing at a team party in March 2006. The players she accused were arrested, igniting a national controversy and conversations about racism. The allegations even resulted in the team having to cancel its season.

The three players, David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann, were all found innocent of the crimes. But Mangum was not prosecuted for perjury due to questions about her mental health.

At the time, the then-North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper said, “She may have actually believed the many different stories that she has been telling.”

Watch Mangum admit the truth in the video below.

Mangum Can’t Be Prosecuted For Perjury

Unfortunately, Mangum can no longer be prosecuted for perjury. This is because the statute of limitations on perjury charges in North Carolina expired a long time ago, as it lasts just two years.

Mike Nifong, the lead prosecutor on the case, was adamant that the rape really happened. He went so far as to claim that the alleged assault, which we now know never took place, was motivated by race.

“The information that I have does lead me to conclude that a rape did occur,” Nifong said in 2006. “The circumstances of the rape indicated a deep racial motivation for some of the things that were done. It makes a crime that is by its nature one of the most offensive and invasive even more so.”

Nifong was disbarred one year later after it was revealed that he didn’t turn over DNA that would have helped the cases of Evans, Finnerty, and Seligmann.

In 2008, Mangum wrote a book about her life titled “Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story.” In it, she wrote that “something” happened the night of the alleged rape.

“I will never say that nothing at all happened that night,” she wrote.

So much for that, Crystal!

In 2013, Mangum was convicted of the 2011 murder of her boyfriend Reginald Daye. She allegedly stabbed him to death on April 3 of that year. After her conviction, Mangum was sentenced to more than 14 years in prison. She remains behind bars to this day.

Mangum’s admission shows that we can’t in fact “believe all women,” as Democrats demand that we do whenever a Republican is accused of any kind of sexual transgression. While we’re glad that the truth has come out, it’s sad that the lives of three innocent young men were tainted by this lying woman.

Key Takeaways:

  • Crystal Mangum admits she lied when she accused three Duke lacrosse players of rape.
  • She’d claimed they raped her when she was a stripper at a team party.
  • She’s now in prison for murdering her boyfriend.
