Trump Meets With Zelenskyy – Then Demands ‘Immediate Ceasefire’ in Ukraine

President-Elect Donald Trump is one month away from taking office. However, he’s already making moves on the international stage in preparation for his second presidency.

Trump has repeatedly pledged to end the war with Ukraine and Russia if he were to take office again. He has also often said that Russian President Vladimir Putin would never have invaded Ukraine in the first place if Trump had still been in office.

On Saturday, Trump attended the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. There, he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Indeed, this was their first meeting in person since Trump won the election last month.

Afterward, Trump took to social media to call for an “immediate ceasefire” in Ukraine.

From Truth Social:
Assad is gone. He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer. There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place. They lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever. Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success.

Likewise, Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness. They have ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers, and many more civilians. There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin. Too many lives are being so needlessly wasted, too many families destroyed, and if it keeps going, it can turn into something much bigger, and far worse. I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act. China can help. The World is waiting!

Zelenskyy Addresses Meeting

Zelenskyy appeared to be happy with his discussion with Trump, saying on Sunday that they had a “good meeting.” He claimed that he told Trump that Ukraine needs “a just and enduring peace” that “Russians will not be able to destroy in a few years, as they have done repeatedly in the past.”

Zelenskyy took to his own social media page to say that war “cannot simply end with a piece of paper and a few signatures.” He went on to stress that a ceasefire “without guarantees can be reignited at any moment.” Instead, he believes that Putin “can only be stopped by strength — the strength of world leaders who can become leaders of peace. ”

“We count on America and the entire world to help stop Putin,” Zelenskyy continued. “The only things he fears are America and global unity.”

Check out Zelenskyy’s full statement below.

Putin has good reason to be afraid of Trump’s America. Unlike President Joe Biden, who can easily be walked all over, Trump is simply not to be messed with. He’s also been known to follow through with his promises, unlike many other politicians. That’s why it’s clear that Trump will actually be making ending the conflict between Ukraine and Russia a top priority.

In the end, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia has gone on for long enough. Here’s hoping that Trump can secure this “immediate ceasefire” so that the entire world can move on from this.

Key Takeaways:

  • Trump calls for “immediate ceasefire” between Ukraine and Russia.
  • This came after Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
  • Trump has often pledged that he’d end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia if he was elected.
