It’s been five days since yet another assassination attempt on Donald Trump was thwarted by the Secret Service. This time, a crazed gunman staked out Trump’s golf course in Palm Beach, Florida, for 12 hours in the hopes of killing the former president.
Thankfully, the Secret Service was able to apprehend this gunman before he could fire a shot at Trump. This came just 64 days after the former president was shot in the ear during a Pennsylvania rally in another attempt on his life.
These incidents were the first assassination attempts on the life of a current or former president in over forty years. One would think that in the wake of Trump’s attempted murder, Democrats’ disturbing hatred for the former president would soften at least a little bit.
Sadly, a new poll has confirmed that this has not happened at all. In fact, quite the opposite has occurred. Now, a disturbing number of Democrats openly admit that America may have been better off if Trump had been killed.
From The Napolitan Institute:
Seventeen percent (17%) of voters believe America would have been better off if former President Trump had been killed in last week’s attempted assassination. That figure includes 28% of Democrats who say that America would have been better off if Trump had been assassinated. Another 24% of Democrats were not sure. Fewer than half (48%) of Democrats could bring themselves to say that America would not be better off if the opposing party’s candidate for president had been assassinated.
Scott Rasmussen, president of RMG Research, said “It is hard to imagine a greater threat to democracy than expressing a desire to have your political opponent murdered.”
This Is Banana Republic Stuff
‘When it comes to the future of this country, it doesn’t get much more terrifying than that, folks.
It’s one thing to have strong political opinions. It’s quite another to openly believe that the country would be better off if a former president were brutally murdered.
With this poll, it appears that America has entered full banana republic territory.
Believe it or not, the poll only got worse from there.
More from The Napolitan Institute:
Forty-nine percent (49%) of Democrats think it’s at least somewhat likely that Trump himself or the Trump campaign was involved with the assassination attempt, with 21% saying it was very likely. Fifty-two percent (52%) of Republicans think it’s at least somewhat likely that the Democratic Party or the Harris campaign was involved, with 28% saying it’s very likely.
This just goes to show that America is more divided than ever. In the immediate aftermath of the first assassination attempt on Trump, there was hope that the near-murder of a former president would ultimately bring the country together. Surely an ex-president almost being murdered on camera would be enough to make Americans put their differences aside to heal as one nation.
Instead, there is so much distrust between both political sides of the aisle that each one suspects the other of being involved when there’s an attempt on a former president’s life.
Hateful Rhetoric Has Gone Too Far
Democrats would argue that Trump’s rhetoric is to blame for all of this. Indeed, they have shown over the past two months that when it comes to Trump, they have no problem blaming the victim in multiple attempted murders.
It can also be argued that Democrats’ rhetoric is what has truly led to these attempts on Trump’s life. After all, Democrats have spent years claiming that Trump poses an “existential threat to democracy.” They’ve gone so far as to compare him to Adolph Hitler and his supporters to Nazis. No wonder two lunatics heard this and decided that killing Trump would be doing a favor for the world.
Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, the results of this latest poll should disturb you as an American. In the end, as we head into this election, it’s clear that our country may just be in a worse state than it ever has been before.
Key Takeaways:
- The majority of Democrats think the U.S. may have been better off if Trump was murdered.
- 49% think Trump was involved in the latest assassination attempt on him.
- America is more divided than ever before.
