Disney wrote its own self-destruction story line over the last few years with its attempts at woke indoctrination. Once faithful fans stopped visiting the parks or buying tickets to movies highlighting anti-American cultural themes.
When Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called out the company, leftists far and wide attacked him. He worked to force Disney to operate like other corporations in the state and not receive favored treatment. DeSantis stripped the company of its special Disney-controlled tax district.
Disney fired back against the governor and sued, saying DeSantis was retaliating against the company. The once-heralded House of Mouse suffered a huge loss when a judge dropped a hammer on Disney’s argument.
DeSantis beat Disney on Wednesday after a federal judge tossed the company’s lawsuit that claimed the governor retaliated against the company.
From the Daily Wire:
“The days of Disney controlling its own government and being placed above the law are long gone,” said Press Secretary Jeremy Redfern. “The federal court’s decision made it clear that Governor DeSantis was correct: Disney is still just one of many corporations in the state, and they do not have a right to their own special government.”
The legal rift started after Disney publicly criticized the governor’s Florida Parental Rights in Education Act (HB 9-B). The law empowers parents to make decisions for raising their children and protects children from exposure to leftist gender ideologies in school.
Disney claimed in its lawsuit that DeSantis retaliated against the company for the public criticism. DeSantis dismantled a special Disney-controlled tax district that gave the company power for self-governance.
U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor slapped down the Disney argument, ruling that the company lacked standing and jurisdiction in the lawsuit. That sent Disney into a cartoonish tantrum over the judgment as it planned an appeal.
Disney claimed the legal decision “would set a dangerous precedent and give license to states to weaponize their official powers to punish the expression of political viewpoints they disagree with.”
Republicans celebrated the legal victory, and Redfern said the reign of Disney has ended in Orlando, home of Walt Disney World. The “Corporate Kingdom” is over, Redfern said.
