Bill Maher has been on quite a roll lately, hasn’t he? The HBO host who once reliably parroted progressive talking points has increasingly found himself at odds with the Democrat establishment. From blasting campus wokeness to criticizing gender ideology to questioning COVID policies, Maher has become that uncomfortable friend who says what everyone’s thinking but no Democrat is supposed to admit out loud.
Now, he’s doing something that will really chap their hide!
The liberal comedian revealed he’s headed to the White House to meet with President Trump, and his message to fellow liberals who might have a problem with it couldn’t be more blunt. During a recent interview on Andrew Schulz’s podcast, Maher explained that the meeting was arranged by none other than Kid Rock, who recently visited Maher’s show.
“Kid Rock was here a couple of weeks ago and he said ‘I want you to meet Trump. I’m going to take you to the White House.’ So now we’re going to do that,” Maher said.
When asked about the inevitable leftist backlash—which is sure to be a tsunami of blue-check Twitter meltdowns and MSNBC panic attacks—Maher didn’t mince words:
From Breitbart:
During an interview with comedian Andrew Schulz on his Club Random podcast, Maher discussed his scheduled meeting with President Trump and how it would bother hard leftists.“Kid Rock was here a couple of weeks ago and he said ‘I want you to meet Trump. I’m going to take you to the White House.’ So now we’re going to do that,” he said.
“There will be lots of people on the left who will be like ‘How dare you talk to this man?’ Like f—k you. I’m not playing this game that you mean girls play,” he continued. “Where you’re like ‘you cant sit at my lunch table, because I’m not talking to you.’ Not talking to you? You lost the election. Who the f—k do you think you have to talk to?”
When Maher Meets MAGA: A White House Visit Unlike Any Other
What makes this revelation particularly interesting is Maher’s attitude toward the meeting. Despite his often harsh criticism of Trump over the years, the comedian views the invitation with a surprising level of reverence.
“It’s an honor to be invited to the White House under any circumstance,” Maher stated, according to The Daily Wire. He even plans to show proper respect by wearing formal attire – specifically mentioning a suit that conservative commentator Jordan Peterson once gave him.
“It’s not going to be a black t-shirt. I am wearing a suit and tie,” Maher said, taking a not-so-subtle jab at Ukraine President Zelensky, who famously showed up to the White House in casual attire. “The Jordan Peterson approved suit. It’s a sign of respect. It’s the White House.”
Maher further acknowledged the democratic process, adding, “And you also have to respect that the guy did win. More than half the country… You can not like Trump. You can hate him. You can’t hate everyone who voted for him.”
Breaking Up With The Left: Maher’s Path to Independence
This isn’t the first time Maher has broken ranks with the Democrat establishment. Earlier this year, he made headlines by shutting down former CNN host Don Lemon’s racist comments about Black Trump supporters. When Lemon claimed Black MAGA supporters couldn’t be “rational,” Maher pushed back hard.
Maher has been increasingly vocal about the need for more dialogue across political divides, stating, “We got to get more of this going. This has to become the center. This has to become a real center. It’s a few lonely islands that need to become a bigger sandbar.”
The HBO host appears to be practicing what he preaches by accepting this Trump meeting. While many of his progressive colleagues refuse to engage with the other half of America, Maher seems to understand that political isolation only further divides the country.
Key Takeaways:
- Bill Maher’s scheduled White House meeting with President Trump represents his growing independence from Democrat orthodoxy.
- Maher had harsh words for leftists who play “mean girls” politics by refusing to speak with political opponents.
- Despite past criticism of Trump, Maher considers a White House invitation “an honor” and plans to show appropriate respect.
