Basketball star LeBron James has been in the NBA since he was 19 years old. Over the many years playing ball, he’s become rich and famous. And, it seems, this wealthy, entitled man decided his leftist opinion matter. He has repeatedly exploited his fame to push far-left, “woke” views, even though nobody asked him.
The man is now 38 years old–over-the-hill for a professional athlete. Perhaps many expected him to land another spot in the NBA finals. But the man who calls himself “King James” just experienced a major letdown. And now, he is facing the facts.
James put up 40 points and snagged 10 rebounds in Game 4, but missed two potential game-tying shots in the closing minute as the Lakers faded and lost 113-111. following the game, James gave the strongest indicator he’s ever given that he is seriously contemplating retirement.
“We’ll see what happens going forward,” James said in his postgame news conference. “I don’t know. I don’t know. I’ve got a lot to think about, to be honest. Just for me personally going forward with the game of basketball, I’ve got a lot to think about.”
LeBron might just be throwing himself a pity party. But he can’t ignore the fact his team got swept by Denver in a 4-0 series. After the final game, which ended his season, James appeared to be contemplating retirement.
Like many other famous athletes, James is going to have a hard time walking away from basketball. This sport has dominated most of his adult life. What will he do, if he is no longer in the NBA spotlight? Plenty, of course. But these “icons” don’t seem to know who they are off the court.
Just like Tom Brady.
Perhaps this loss will give James a dose of humility. He has been riding high on the hog for decades. Maybe it’s time he stepped aside and found meaning in something other than sports. But we can’t make that decision for him.
Odds are, if LeBron retired, he’d scoop up even more millions through book deals, documentaries, and appearances on endless television shows. He could continue to milk his fame until the end of his life. But will he learn not to push radical politics, just to score points with the media?
We doubt it.
- LeBron James suffered a painful defeat after being swept by Denver 4-0.
- After the final game, he suggested he might be retiring from the sport.
- James is known for his divisive political comments off the court.
