Picture your family cruising down the interstate, an 18-wheeler rumbling alongside you in the next lane. You assume – reasonably – that the person piloting that 80,000-pound machine is trained, licensed, and legally permitted to be in this country. For years now, that assumption has been dead wrong more often than anyone in Washington wanted to admit. Illegal immigrants, many released into the interior under the Biden administration, have infiltrated the commercial trucking industry carrying fraudulent credentials, criminal histories, and zero business being behind the wheel.
This disaster didn’t materialize out of thin air. It metastasized while federal leadership shrugged and while certain states – you can probably guess which ones – made it their mission to shield illegal immigrants from the very agencies designed to keep American roads safe. Fortunately, not every state decided to play along.
From the Daily Wire:
More than a dozen red states have coordinated a crackdown on illegal immigrant truck drivers to keep them from avoiding law enforcement by rerouting through other states.
Tim Tipton, the commissioner of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, said at a news conference Monday that when state troopers began targeting illegal truckers alongside federal authorities, social media posts began popping up telling the foreign drivers to “divert” and avoid Oklahoma.
Give Oklahoma credit where it’s due. Commissioner Tipton and his team didn’t just run a local sting – they built a coalition. Oklahoma’s “Operation Guardian” expanded into a first-of-its-kind multi-state partnership spanning fourteen red states, including Texas, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Alabama. Over a coordinated 72-hour blitz, authorities arrested more than 230 illegal immigrants. Over 40 of them held commercial driver’s licenses. Since January 2025, ICE has conducted more than 4,800 CDL operations nationwide, nabbing 1,243 license holders – 710 in Oklahoma alone. That one state has now signed 136 ICE partnerships, 109 of them this year. Oklahoma isn’t dabbling in enforcement. They’re running laps around everyone else.
The human cost behind the numbers
Statistics are one thing. Then you hear about the 17-year-old girl. She crossed the border alone during the Biden years, received a deportation order that nobody enforced, and wound up in a vehicle with five adult men under investigation for human trafficking. Every single person in that car was here illegally. “We had been looking for her,” said Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “Because of this operation, we were able to locate her.” One multi-state operation accomplished what years of negligence couldn’t.
Elsewhere during the blitz, a Honduran national behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle attacked a state trooper – dislocating his elbow and breaking his arm – then fled. A four-hour manhunt ended with his capture and the discovery of methamphetamine on his person. Plenty of others hauled in carried felony warrants, domestic assault charges, and multiple DUIs. These aren’t desperate people looking for a better life. These are criminals exploiting a broken system.
Where were the blue states?
Scan the list of participating states. Every single one is red. Not a coincidence. The social media warnings urging illegal truckers to reroute? They originated from East and West Coast corridors – the sanctuary havens where these drivers roam unbothered. California, New York, Illinois – these states don’t merely decline to cooperate with ICE. They actively obstruct enforcement operations and then lecture the rest of us about compassion. Sheltering unlicensed, untrained illegal immigrants behind the wheels of tractor-trailers isn’t compassion. It’s complicity dressed in moral vanity.
Fourteen red states demonstrated something powerful here. Federalism works when leaders actually use it. A teenage girl is safe tonight because Oklahoma refused to look the other way. The real question heading into the midterms is brutally simple: is your state protecting you, or protecting the people who have no right to be here?
Key Takeaways
- Fourteen red states coordinated a 72-hour blitz arresting 230+ illegal immigrants, including 40+ commercial truck drivers.
- A trafficked 17-year-old girl was recovered and violent criminals with felony warrants were removed from American roads.
- Every participating state was red – blue sanctuary states were completely absent from the effort.
- Oklahoma’s aggressive ICE partnerships prove federalism works when states choose enforcement over obstruction.
