MSNOW Issues Correction After Falsely Reporting FBI Director Kash Patel Was In Russia

There was a time when news anchors actually verified stories before broadcasting them to millions of Americans. That era is long gone.

Today’s mainstream media operates on a simple formula: anonymous sources whisper something juicy, producers slap a “BREAKING NEWS” banner on screen, and the retraction – if it comes at all – gets mumbled hours later when nobody’s watching.

Nothing illustrates this sickness quite like the left-wing press and its unshakeable Russia fixation. The original collusion hoax consumed Trump’s entire first term, burned through millions in taxpayer dollars, and ultimately produced zero evidence of wrongdoing.

A normal institution might learn some humility from that spectacular failure. These networks instead doubled down, salivating at every opportunity to resurrect the narrative – accuracy be damned.

From WLT Report:

On Monday, MSNOW (formerly MSNBC) told America that FBI Director Kash Patel had landed in Russia for a meeting. Anchor Ken Dilanian ran an entire segment questioning why on earth an FBI Director would be in Moscow right now.

Theories quickly ran wild, including talk of potential collusion with Russia or Patel being bought and owned by Putin. But, the problem was, the whole story was a lie. In reality, Kash Patel spent his day in Lynchburg, VA at a law enforcement appreciation event being held at Liberty University!

Let that register for a moment. A major cable news network told its audience – on live television – that the FBI Director had secretly flown to Russia for a clandestine FSB meeting. Their evidence? The usual: “two people familiar with the matter.” Meanwhile, in actual reality, Patel was standing behind a podium in Virginia, honoring law enforcement officers. You genuinely have to wonder if anyone at that network even considered picking up a phone before going to air.

Here’s the thing about MSNOW and outlets like it. They don’t run these stories despite the lack of verification. They run them because of it. A vague Russia allegation generates exactly the viral hysteria their dwindling audience craves. By the time the truth surfaces, the damage is done and the narrative has already burrowed into social media.

Debunked before the segment even cooled

The FBI’s Rapid Response account on X demolished the report within minutes, posting side-by-side footage: MSNOW’s breathless Russia claim on the left, Patel speaking at Liberty University on the right. The caption was blunt – “MS Now’s ‘sources’ are ‘familiar’ with NOTHING!” Director Patel himself piled on with a two-word rebuttal: “Facts over clickbait.”

But he wasn’t finished. On his official FBI Director account, Patel laid out precisely what the media refuses to cover – his agency’s actual performance.

The record they’d rather you not see

Under Patel’s leadership, the FBI has posted numbers that would lead any honest newscast. Over 53,900 violent crime arrests – a 90% increase. The nationwide murder rate has dropped nearly 20%. More than 31,000 violent criminals and gang members are off the streets.

Ten of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted fugitives have been captured, outpacing the prior four years by a factor of 2.5. His team has located over 11,000 child victims and seized more than 3,258 kilos of fentanyl – enough to kill 247 million people.

Those numbers represent real families made safer. Real communities breathing easier. But statistics like these don’t serve the media’s preferred storyline, so they get buried under fabricated Russian drama.

A correction that kept the smear alive

Dilanian eventually delivered his on-air retraction, though “retraction” is generous. “We’ve since learned that Patel did not, in fact, land in Russia today and remains in the U.S.,” he conceded, before slipping in a telling qualifier: “The timing of any potential trip remains unclear.” He then patted himself on the back for being “transparent about when we make errors.”

Catch that? Even in the correction, MSNOW kept the insinuation breathing. He didn’t go today – but maybe tomorrow.

Some commentators have floated an intriguing theory: that this was a deliberate counterintelligence play, a “barium meal test” where false information gets fed to suspected leakers to smoke them out. Whether that speculation proves accurate or not, the sheer confidence of the FBI’s instant rebuttal certainly raises eyebrows.

Patel himself seemed to relish the whole spectacle, posting later that evening with unmistakable swagger: “From Russia, with Love…”

The liberal media has spent years manufacturing narratives and hoping Americans won’t notice the pattern. Fewer and fewer are falling for it. When your “bombshell” gets vaporized by a university event in Virginia, maybe, just maybe, it’s time to reconsider who your “sources” actually are.

Key Takeaways

  • MSNOW falsely reported FBI Director Kash Patel had landed in Russia – he was in Virginia.
  • The network’s retraction still hedged, keeping the baseless Russia insinuation alive.
  • Patel’s FBI has delivered historic results in violent crime, fentanyl seizures, and child rescues.
  • Anonymous-source journalism without basic verification is not news – it is propaganda.
