For as long as most of us can remember, the right to vote has been the cornerstone of American self-governance. One citizen, one vote. Not a suggestion – a covenant between the people and the republic they built. Protecting that covenant isn’t optional. It’s the bare minimum we owe each other.

Yet for years, anyone who dared suggest that noncitizens were casting ballots in American elections got the full treatment. Media outlets called it a myth. Democratic officials waved it off as a manufactured distraction. Raising concerns about election integrity didn’t earn you a serious conversation – it earned you a label. Paranoid. Conspiratorial. Dangerous, even. Funny how that works.

From The Daily Wire:

The Justice Department charged 48 foreigners with illegally voting in American elections and registering to cast ballots, The Daily Wire is first to report.

The accused are located in Nevada, Pennsylvania, California, Florida, and New York, according to the Department of Justice. All but one of the accused are lawful permanent residents.

Voter fraud is real. It has names, faces, and federal case numbers. And the Department of Justice just handed us 48 of them in a single announcement – spread across five states and eight federal judicial districts. So much for the myth.

The individual cases are damning. Omar Alexander Muñoz, a 72-year-old lawful permanent resident from Belize, allegedly registered to vote in 2019 by claiming U.S. citizenship. He then voted in 2020, twice in 2022, and again in 2024. When he later applied for naturalization, he allegedly lied under oath about ever having claimed to be a citizen. In New York, Irish national Eoin Cranney sat down with federal agents and openly admitted he registered and voted in the 2024 general election knowing full well he had no right to. No ambiguity there. No clerical mix-up. Deliberate fraud.

A pattern, not an anomaly

Here’s the part that should unsettle every American who values legitimate elections. This batch of 48 wasn’t a one-off. Just days earlier, the DOJ charged 28 foreign nationals in California for election crimes. Days before that, 16 more across North Carolina, New York, and Idaho. A separate case in New Jersey saw an illegal alien from Jamaica admit to voting in a federal election. The announcements are stacking up like cordwood.

Worse still – many of these individuals went undetected for years. One defendant allegedly first registered to vote in 2002. Another in 2003. Two decades of casting illegal ballots before anyone noticed. Most were only caught because they applied for citizenship and couldn’t keep their stories straight on the paperwork. The system didn’t catch them. Their own greed did.

When states refuse to look

And then there’s California. The Trump administration handed state officials a list of suspected noncitizens who had already been mailed ballots ahead of the November 3 midterm election. The names were on a password-protected thumb drive. Officials were given 48 hours to review them and set aside any unverified ballots.

California’s response? They wouldn’t even open the drive. Refused to touch it. The DOJ had to file a lawsuit just to prevent those unverified ballots from being counted. Multiple other Democrat-run states have similarly resisted federal efforts to audit their voter rolls. When your government won’t even glance at evidence of noncitizen voting, you have to wonder whether the priority is election integrity – or avoiding accountability.

Every fraudulent ballot cast by a noncitizen neutralizes the legitimate vote of an American citizen. That isn’t a partisan talking point. It’s arithmetic. With the midterms days away, the DOJ is finally treating this threat with the seriousness it deserves. The real question is whether every state government will do the same – or whether some will keep pretending the problem doesn’t exist, thumbs drives gathering dust in a drawer somewhere.

Key Takeaways

  • The DOJ charged 48 foreign nationals for illegally voting across five U.S. states.
  • Many defendants voted undetected for years, exposing deep verification failures.
  • California refused to even review a federal list of suspected noncitizen voters.
  • Election integrity isn’t a conspiracy theory – it’s a documented, ongoing crisis.
